Choosing the Best

Snowboard Boots

There are various factors that go into choosing the best pair of snowboard boots for you.

Terrain/style

Choosing the right snowboard boots all depends on the type of terrain that you snowboard on. Do you snowboard on the rough hills or on a groomed track?

If you plan on boarding and carving down slopes, you’ll want a pair of all-mountain snowboarding boots.

If you will be doing tricks and will be in the park most of the time, you’ll want to choose a pair of freestyle boots.

Boot flex

This is one of the most important aspects to consider when choosing the right pair of boots.

If you are a beginner snowboarder, you’ll want to choose a pair of soft and flexible boots. These are more comfortable and will be more forgiving for a beginner.

If you’re an advanced snowboarder, you’ll need less of a boot flex. This will allow for more aggressive turns and harder landings.

Lacing system

There are three different lacing systems for snowboard boots:

  • Quick pull – Quick-pull lacing is the neutral option, it is fairly easy and can be done while wearing gloves.

  • Traditional – Traditional lacing is the most difficult lacing option. It’s tough on your hands, and almost impossible with gloves on. However, it offers the best custom fit because you can choose where the laces are tightest.

  • Boa – This is the easiest lacing option. It uses a dial to adjust the laces, which of course can be done while wearing gloves.

Fit

When you’re trying to figure out the best fit for your new snowboard boots, they should be pretty snug and tight for the first few days that you use them.

You’ll want your toe to gently touch the tip of the boot, but you don’t want them to be squished.

Your heel should stay in place when you bend your knees, and your toe should slightly move back.

Be sure to try on the boots with socks on so you can get the best idea of how they will fit.

Materials

Most snowboard boots are made from synthetic material, but you can find leather boots.

The leather ones will be much more durable and will last longer if you take care of them. However, they’re definitely more expensive.

Soles of the boots are made out of rubber.

A lighter rubber will be best if you stick to the park and a heavier rubber will give better durability for those who hike up the mountain to make fresh tracks.

Liner

The liner that is inside a snowboard boot will give you insulation, comfort, and padding for your feet. There are three different types.

  • Moldable lining – These use your body heat to conform to your foot shape.

  • Stock lining – These are standard liners that don’t mold to your feet, other than what will happen when you use them for a long time.

  • Heat-moldable lining – These offer the best in customization. This is heated up and you then place your feet in them and stay there so that the lining molds in that time. You don’t have to wear them for any extra amount of time.

Final Thoughts:

Which Snowboard Boots are Right for You?

There you have it, the best snowboard boots currently on the market.

Since snowboarders have different needs and preferences, you’ll need to answer a few questions before settling on a snowboarding boot. What’s my budget for the snowboard boots? What kind of snowboarding are you into? What do you prefer – aesthetics or quality?

These are some of the critical questions that you must always answer before heading out to gear up. In addition, buying expensive snowboard boots is not always recommended. Look for boots that are right for your needs and will help you improve your overall performance.

How to Wax a Snowboard: Tips and Tricks to Waxing Your Board

Snowboarding is a wonderful sport that many people really enjoy. With that said, though, it is a sport that does require regular board upkeep and maintenance.

As a snowboarder, one of the things you will definitely have to learn is how to wax a snowboard.

Waxing your board is a vital part of caring for your snowboard and of ensuring you can engage in the sport safely and correctly.

The good news is that learning how to wax a snowboard isn’t all that hard either- especially not if you can follow a few simple tips.

Do You Really Need to Know How to Wax a Snowboard?

Before we dive into how to wax a snowboard, you may be wondering if waxing is really necessary. Some people think it’s just a silly suggestion, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Waxing your board is important for a great many reasons. First of all, you’re going to have a hard time really sliding on the snow like you should if your board isn’t freshly waxed. And, when you can’t slide the right way, you’ll probably find yourself getting stuck a lot, which is really going to ruin your fun on the snow. It’s also going to ruin any chance you have of winning if you’re snowboarding competitively.

Waxing will improve your snowboarding experience. It will also protect your snowboard itself and helps it to last for long. Snowboards often have an issue with the base drying out. If not prevented, it can lead to cracking and other problems. Waxing your snowboard will hydrate and strengthen it and allow it to last longer.

Another major reason to wax your snowboard regularly is that waxing is going to help it to go fast. Do you enjoy speeding down the snow and feeling like you’re flying? (and who doesn’t?), waxing your board is of the utmost importance.

It All Starts with a Waxing Iron

So, now that you understand the importance of waxing your snowboard, it’s time to learn how to do it.

You’ll want to start with a waxing iron. This can be any iron that you have on hand. Some people will tell you that you have to drop big bucks on a specialty iron, but this is not the case.

Just make sure that the iron you choose is not one you plan to or need to use on your clothes. You won’t be able to use the iron for ironing clothes once it has been used for wax, so keep that in mind.

Take Off Your Board’s Bindings

Once you’ve got a waxing iron that you can use, it’s time to get down to business.

You’ll want to start by removing or at least loosening the bindings off your board. If you don’t do this, you can end up warping and potentially ruining your base by exposing it to heat.

So, with a screwdriver, carefully remove the bindings. If you’d rather not take them all the way off, then at least loosen them to the point that you don’t have tension in your screws.

Once the bindings are properly removed or loosened, you’re ready to progress to the next step.

Start Dripping the Wax Onto the Board Edge

After removing the bindings, you are ready to heat your iron and then press the wax from the iron onto the snowboard.

You can drip a line of wax to the edge closest to you to get started. The wax line should go over the entire length of the board. Make sure that the iron is hot while you do this, but don’t allow it to get so hot that the wax smokes when it hits the board, as this can potentially be damaging to the board.

Once you have your line of wax, press the iron onto the snowboard and go over the drip line a few times, spreading the wax around as much as possible as you work. When you’re done, you can repeat these instructions on the other edge and then in the center of the board, working until the whole surface has been thoroughly waxed.

Let the Wax Seep into the Board

Once you are done with the actual waxing, it’s time to let the wax sit and seep into the board. For best results, try and let the wax sit for at least thirty minutes. It’s even better if you can let it sit overnight, but a half hour will work in a pinch.

After the waiting period is over, carefully scrape the wax, and you’re ready to go.

If you follow these helpful tips, you will get the job done right every time. As you can see, learning how to wax your snowboard isn’t difficult.

With the beginner mode, the skateboard limits your speed to 11 mph. But with the pro mode, you can hit the full specs. This mode should, however, should be left to the professionals.

Its battery capacity is good, but not as good as most of the skateboards on the list. It will get you up to 12 miles on a full charge (but this will depend on the mode used).

Choosing the Best Electric Skateboard

When you choose the best electric skateboard for yourself, there are multiple factors to take into consideration.

Brand

There are brands out there that are known to be unreliable. We haven’t included any of them in our list of the best ones of course, but if you opt for one outside of this list, make sure to do some research first.

Recalls

Electric skateboards are known to get recalled from time to time. Be sure to stay up to date on these, because you don’t want to be using one that is recalled. This doesn’t just include the skateboard itself, it also includes motors and other parts.

Average lifespan

Nothing will last forever, including your electric skateboard. However, certain ones will last longer than others.

Customer support

You want to make sure you choose a brand or store that has good customer service. If you should run into any problems, you’re going to need someone to guide you through it.

Warranty

Keep an eye on the warranty. If one isn’t offered, or if it’s a short warranty, you may want to look into a different board.

Maneuverability

Your skateboard needs to be easy to control and ride. If it’s not, it’s not worth your time at all.

Value

If you’re choosing an inexpensive skateboard, make sure it has good quality. Also, just because a board is expensive, doesn’t automatically mean it’s of good quality.

Try to choose a board within your budget that has everything you’re looking for.

Specific Features to Look For

There are specific features to look for in a skateboard. These include:

  • Speed: Single vs dual motor

  • Size: Choose the best sized board for your height and weight

  • Connectivity: Handheld controllers

  • Battery life: Tested in miles rather than standard runtime

  • Brakes: Test them out

  • Wheel quality: High-density rubber is best

  • Portability: Weight and size

  • Weight: 12 to 16 pounds is standard

  • Material: Composite wood is best

  • Water resistance: Look for ratings from the manufacturer

  • Warranty: Average from one to two years

What Deck Size to Choose

Your deck size will depend on your height. You’ll want to get the best performance possible.

  • Mini board: Best for those taller than 3’5″, with a U.S. shoe size of 4 or higher

  • Mid board: Best for those taller than 4’5″, with a U.S. shoe size of 7 or higher

  • Full board: Best for those taller than 5’3″, with a U.S. shoe size of 9 or higher

Always Go for Reputable Brands

Whatever you use your electric skateboard for – daily commuting or fun – be sure you get it from a reputable skateboard brand. This is because no matter the quality or material, electric skateboards do break down.

And when that happens, you’ll want to deal with a brand that has readily available spare parts and brilliant customer service and support. The above 6 picks are great choices to consider.

What are the Best Obstacle Course Shoes?

Running is one of the purest forms of exercise you can perform.  When you run, you are using the body’s natural movements to propel yourself forward at high speeds —  it is exhilarating, rewarding, and challenging.

Obstacle course running makes the act of running even more exciting!  It involves running over all kinds of terrain, climbing obstacles, and jumping over barricades.  Obstacle running is a form of running that feels much more enjoyable than running in circles on a track or dodging traffic as you jog in the city.

Get a pair that is slightly larger than you would normally wear

Choose shoes with a tough and resilient upper

Don’t worry about the looks of the shoe

1. Hobie Mirage Kayak Sail Kit 2016

71pOiYwNk5L._SL1002_The Hobie Mirage Kayak Sail Kit 2016 outfits your Mirage model kayak with a sail that is reliable enough and works well enough to allow you to traverse deep ocean waters easily and efficiently. The sail cuts through the wind, which in turn provides your kayak with more stability. Of course, that is not the only benefit this sail kit provides. You can enjoy the following features with this kit:

  • Fingertip steering
  • Mainsheet control with other hand
  • Foot pedal setup
  • Easily raise and lower the sail in seconds

With a rating of 4 out of 5 stars, this high-quality sail is hard to beat. It would also seem that customers are relatively happy with this particular kayak sail kit. One customer said, “Definitely 5 stars, this is a great product, very well made.”

Of course, that is not to say that everything about this sail is absolutely perfect. Some customers report that you do not get much speed out of it, but that is to be expected since it is not a full blown boat sail. Customers who have complained about the sail have said, “it will not become your only means of propulsion.” In other words, many kayakers haver reported that they still need to pedal in order to keep the kayak going rather than relying on the sail alone. However, with such a great rating and the majority of customers seeming pleased, this kayak sail kit deserves to make the list.

2. Amazingli Downwind Kayak Wind Sail Kit

51db4th25aL._SL250_The Amazingli Downwind Kayak Wind Sail Kit is the perfect choice for kayakers who are on a budget and looking for a sail with a simple design and setup. The 42-inch sail offers a number of features, including:

  • Triple-stitched seams
  • Perimeter batten made of nearly unbreakable composite material
  • Compact design
  • Quick deployment
  • High-quality rip-stop nylon
  • Ability to fit a variety of water vessels – Kayaks, canoes, expeditions boats, tandems, and inflatables

With a 4 out of 5-star rating and a low price tag, it is easy to see why customers seem generally pleased with this sail. One customer went as far as to say, “If you have ever been kayaking and felt the wind at your back pushing you along, you really should try out a downwind kayak sail.”

Of course, there are a couple of drawbacks with this sail. As they say, you get what you pay for and while the cheaper price of this sail is accommodating for nearly any budget, the kit itself lacks a few necessities that allow you to outfit it to your kayak properly. One somewhat displeased customer said, “No extra hardware included, just the sail and 5 pieces of rope.” There are some complaints that the bit of rope that came with the sail are a bit on the small side. However, the additional purchase of a few carabiners seems to fix the issue.

If you are looking to avoid some of the more expensive kayak sail kits out there and you’re willing to purchase a bit more hardware to modify this sail’s security, then this is the one for you. All-in-all, it seems the benefits of this sail certainly outweigh the negatives, which means it is worth taking a closer look at it overall.
