If you’re retired and living the RV life, your vacation options are almost limitless. With so many places to go, it can be hard to know what’s worth a stop. If you and your traveling companion are planning a trip to the beautiful state of Virginia, here are some must-see stops.
Kiptopeke State Park
On Virginia’s beautiful Eastern Shore, explored by Capt. John Smith in 1608, Kiptopeke offers recreational access to the Chesapeake Bay. It’s also a great place to explore unique migratory bird habitats along the Atlantic flyway. This park definitely is for birders. They have songbird blinds around a freshwater pond to observe the birds. They also have raptor-watching stations and hawk migration events as well.
Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge
This wildlife refuge is certainly a site to see if you consider yourself a birder. Established in 1984, this wildlife refuge serves as one of the country’s most valuable stopovers for migratory birds and insects. This Refuge is most popular during bird migration season, so plan accordingly and grab your binoculars if you love birds Outside of migration season, this refuge hosts 34 mammal species and over 400 species of birds, so there is always something to see no matter what time of year you go! They also have Guided tours of Fisherman Island National Wildlife Refuge. These are a great way to experience an otherwise inaccessible part of the refuge complex. Be sure to pre-register so you can enjoy a fall or winter tour!
Cape Charles Brewing Co
This local eatery was a smash hit with my family and me. With, beer, burgers, and fish sandwiches, it is perfect RV road trip food. Just the slice of heaven you are hoping to find when you stop into
Sun Country Cape Charles
This used to be called Cherrystone campground Sun Country bought it a few years ago. Very large campground along the Chesapeake Bay. If you are able to be a bit farther away, you can be put in a more quiet area. Overall, the campground is nice. The adult pool was clean and right alongside the beach, so it offered a great view!
Nearby are some beautiful hiking and biking trails. This is a great way to appreciate the local scenery and get some much-needed exercise while you’re at it!
Virginia might not seem like much at first glance, but there is a reason it was one of the oldest states settled in American History. The wildlife, the woods, and the beautiful sunsets are enough to attract any wanderer. Next time you are driving through Virginia, consider one, or all of these fabulous stops!
Looking for how to spend your time in the RV? Songs can get old, and road games only take you so far. Try these trivia questions!

If you are looking to take a trip to Europe anytime soon, you might consider taking a stop in Italy. In fact, better than a stop, take a trip to Italy! Backpacking through Europe, or sightseeing in the country side, we have the inside scoop on the best way for a foreigner to get an authentic and rewarding tour of Italy.
The Trevi Fountain Rome Italy
Rome
How can you take a trip to Italy without going to Rome? I think it might be impossible. Naturally, going to Rome is most common, here are some top tips for traveling in Rome.
First, experts say, if you can afford it, invest in some travel passes. Going to the most famous spots? The Vatican, the colosseum, or the Sistine chapel? This pass is awesome! Cut lines, get your very own tour guide, and much more. We recommend the passes at Omnia Card. With options of 24 to 72 hours, the omnia card is a must have for your time in Rome.
If you aren’t comfortable traveling in a foreign country, consider getting a hotel close to the inner city. You can walk to every area you want to visit. Alternatively, the passes have a special bus service which will ferry you around from site to sight. Either of these options are preferable to renting a car and trying to figure out the foreign driving laws.
Are you confident traveling without speaking the language? Or do you have someone who speaks the language traveling with you? Then consider getting a hotel outside of the city! They are much cheaper and are only a short train trip into town. If you will be riding the subways, here are a few top tips.
Don’t worry about catching the first subway. It will likely be crazy and intimidating. Calm down, breathe, and wait for the next train to come. We also suggest standing near the back instead of near the front. The front gets crowded fast, but the back cars are easier to board and less busy.
Some sites to consider seeing on your travels:
The Colosseum
The Vatican
The Sistine Chapel
The Spanish Steps
The Forum
The Trevi Fountain
The Pantheon
Museo e Galleria Borghese
Museo Carlo Bilotti
Museo Nazionale d’Arte Moderna Contemporanea
Venice
Venice has often been described as the most beautiful city in Italy. With winding streets and corner upon corner of history, there is never enough time to explore everything this beautiful city has to offer.
When we discussed the best way to take in this masterpiece of Italy, the best advice we received was to get a street map as soon as you arrive.
Venice is easy to get lost in, so if you are a safe, calculating and planning traveler, a map is a must. Forget about driving and put on your walking shoes.
If you want an adventurous tour of Venice, take to the streets and just walk! Explore streets and alleys and nooks. There is more than enough to see of Venice to allow you and your travel mates to just wander for a while. If you have followed our other crucial piece of advice, you can use the street map you picked up to find your way back from where you end up.
Most people picture Venice during the summer months. But, during the summer, Venice is hot and crowded. If you’re looking to hit up the beaches then the summer might still be for you. Consider, however, a romantic picture of Venice in the snow. During Christmas time, Venice is fairly unoccupied. Granted, Italy has a bitter cold, with frequent fog and wind which might be intimidating to some. If you are up for an adventure, and looking for a more romantic and intimate view of Venice, we highly recommend a winter trip to this beautiful city.
Things to do and places to visit:
The Piazza San Marco
Shop Bridge
Gondola ride
The Rialto Market
The Northern Lagoon at Venice (Birdwatching)
Milan
Milan, or the city of fashion as some have come to call it is a much more modern Italian city. Although still rich in history, and full to the brim with Italian museums and architecture, many visit Milan for the modern art.
Keep an eye out for streetwear! Fashion is important in Milan, and if you keep a sharp eye, you can likely spot someone sporting a cool street look.
On a more lighthearted note: Consider going with your family on a guided tour of the Teatro alla Scala! As a beautiful historical site, this theatre stuns like none other in Milan. You can find some affordable tickets here for one of the best tours of your life!
If you want a view of this bustling city at night, consider the Porta Venezia! Avoid the Duomo at night, as it tends to be crowded. Explore the outer edges of the city and you can find some real gems!
Don’t be afraid to take the tram! The tram is an important part of European culture and lifestyle. Not to mention, it’s fun! Take the tram with your family or love ones and live like the locals a bit!
Things to see or do:
Castle Castello di Sforzefsca Museum
Milan Cathedral
Lake Como
Lake Maggiore
Lake Garda
Teatro alla Scala
Smaller Cities in Italy
If you want the typical Italian vacation experience, you can stop reading right here. Beyond are tips for the more adventurous and curious travelers.
Some people love the big Italian cities. A different experience, however, is traveling through the countryside and visiting some of the smaller cities. If you and your family or friends are planning to zip through the countryside on a train here or our travel tips for these more popular, smaller cities.
Trieste
The beautiful city of Trieste is one of the many Italian port cities. With beautiful gulf views, and gorgeous architecture, Trieste is a bit o a hidden gem. Trieste is uniquie in that because of its location, it used to be a part of lots of other empires. For that reason, it has a rich history with lots of neat little historical sites you can casually visit with your travel mates.
A bit like the south in America, you can find a church on almost every corner. These churches are works of art themselves and definitely worth a look.
Also worth a visit, if you consider yourself interested in World War II history, is the Trieste Concentration Camp. Although a little dark, it is a fascinating place to visit.
Between trains, trams, and your own two feet, getting around Trieste is relatively easy. Not to mention it is a beautiful adventure everywhere you go.
One important thing to know before going to Trieste are the violent winds! Fierce winds blow off the water and can knock an unsuspecting person over. Often on street booths you can find metal poles for you to quickly grab onto to prevent yourself from blowing away!
The wonderful city of Bologna is another site to see off the beaten path.
With wonderful sites like the two towers, the Piazza de Maggiore, and Neptune fountain, it is not a site you want to miss. A visit to Bologna can be describes as “the most authentic look into Italian life that you can find as a tourist.”
If you want a touristy experience here though, there are two places you should consider visiting: the Beretta Gun factory, and the Ducati motorcycle factory. A dear friend of mine visited the Ducati motorcycle factory and described it as “the coolest experience of (his) life.”
Genoa
Genoa is another beautiful port city of Italy. This is a hilly city with the classic Italian look. Some call Genoa “little Venice.” This is especially true in the cute district within Genoa called “the ally way district.”
If you decide to visit this little city, you must try to locals focaccia bread. You will find no better bread in the whole world!
Genoa is surrounded by old forts. These forts are fun to explore and we highly recommend them! There is a fantastic hiking route outside Genoa with a trail that goes past some old walls and even an old fort! Checkout the details here!
If you are backpacking or traveling low key, you had ought to stop in Genoa for a tour of this beautiful Italian villa town.
Our most important and valuable advice is this: get lost! Follow your nose when something smells good and makes your mouth water. Explore the cities for yourself and find your own hidden gems. There is rich history and culture in every Italian city. Look up from your phone, from your travel guide, from your map, and follow your feet! Find murals, bakeries, old churches, anything that catches your eye. Take time to explore and really live in the moment! Most importantly don’t become so focused on making memories or filling an itinerary that you forget to enjoy your vacation.

There is nothing quite like the open road during the summertime. If you live near the east coast, or are interested in taking a summer trip, consider skipping the traffic and city lights of urban New York for beautiful trees and waterfalls.
When people think of New York they imagine the Empire State Building, Elis Island and the Statue of Liberty, Skyscrapers and subways. Arguably more beautiful, however, is the rural countryside.
This summer, when you plan your road trip to New York, consider stopping for a brief visit to some of these beautiful spots off the beaten path.
Cedar Point State Park
As made clear from the look of the birds above, the view at Cedar Point is not one to miss. With stunning blue water and beautiful lush green grass, wildflowers and trees, Cedar Point is well worth a stop.
Cedar Point offers swimming, fishing, boating and more. The park portion offers covered picnic areas and grills. The docks offer fishing and boat rentals. Also in the park is a campground, popular in the local community as a much desired getaway.
The entire park is beautiful, and as the sun sets, it becomes magical and romantic.
Just look at this beautiful view of the water at sunset. Doesn’t it just make you want to sit around by a fire, cook some hotdogs, and tell stories with your family?
Foreman Park
Another beautiful park in upstate New York, is Foreman Park. This park is right off the road for easy access. No twisty roads or back routes to get to this little spit of heaven.
One unique feature of this beautiful park is a massive willow tree! With a huge gnarled trunk and large roots, this tree alone is a sight to behold.
Foreman park might not seem like much, but its understated beauty is calming. Being at this little park offered us a moment to reflect and ponder. It was a wonderful respite during our travels and vacation.
Letchworth State Park
Letchworth State Park, home to the upper, middle and lower falls, is a must see stop on your rural New York tour. Flowing along the Genesee river, the waterfalls are a key tourist location in this area. Along with the waterfalls, as you can see in the above picture is the Genesee Arch Bridge. Between beautiful water falls, greenery, and bridges, the Letchworth state park is a stop you should consider for your family vacation.
The lower falls have such a beautiful angelic look to them, don’t you think?
Letchworth park not only has beautiful views from overlook parking spots, it also has some gorgeous sights from the many hiking trails around the park. The trails are steep and long, sometimes treacherous.
These hiking trails are not for the faint of heart. If you consider yourself a true hiker with a love of the outdoors, Letchworth trails might be for you! Make sure you are all geared up and ready to hit the trails!
Scotts Bluff
Scotts bluff, aka the mini chimney buffs, overlooks lake Ontario in Wolcott, New York. Only a handful of miles away from the Chimney Bluffs state park, Scotts bluff is wonderful little stop.
With a beautiful coastline and dark rich sandy gravely beaches, Scotts bluff offers an up close look at the coast that leaves nothing wanting.
Getting down to the beach takes a small hike through this gorgeous green brush, both the journey and the destination, are well worth the effort.
Well there you have it! The best state parks and other stops to make the next time you and your family are in New York looking to get away. Of course there is more we could say about these beautiful parks, but instead, we invite you to go and explore these parks for yourself!

Decorate with surfboards, old cars, and everything else to make your summer feel like its truly began, this sight certainly isn’t one to miss. Although this place has the occasional long line or wait time, their food, style, and customer service is worth it!
Since Garden City is a summer town, the majority of the workers during the summer are housed students taking some time off. Everyone enjoys their dining experience more when the people who are working are having a good time and want to be there. The employees at Zips are excited and happy to be working and that attitude makes all the difference. Not to mention, their prices are reasonable too!
Best of all, for the sticker collectors out there, they sell stylish and cute stickers at the front to commemorate your vacation at bear lake!
Pickleville Playhouse Theatre
Just down the street from Zips is the beautiful building of the Pickleville Playhouse! With a beautiful rustic and western look, the Pickleville Playhouse isn’t a sight to miss. Aside from the beautiful exterior, there is also a beautiful intereior! And the shows they put on are even better!

You can find tickets here!
Bluewater Bistro and Bakery
The Bluewater Bistro and Bakery is a true hole-in-the-wall. Tucked behind some buildings and a little difficult to find, the search is worth it. This little bistro offers fantastic breakfast and lunch options that are to die for good.
One review said, “This lady is living her best life. Her Danish was fantastic. She is a skilled baker and her prices are super reasonable considering the quality. After we placed our order, she offered to warm them up for us! No extra cost. Nothing. Just plain ol’ good business. She wanted us to have the best. 5 stars.”
Marketed as a small woman owned business, this bakery is not a sight to miss on this summers vacation. Take the time to seek this little shop out. You and your family won’t regret it!
Ideal Beach Resort
The Ideal Beach Resort is a real option to consider if your family doesn’t own a lake house. Their prices aren’t bad, and they offer some deals for buying rooms in bulk. If you are able to get onto this resort, there are a ton of fun things to do.
With a beautiful lakeside sight, their beaches have shells, hammocks, volleyball nets, and more! They offer affordable rentals of paddleboards, kayaks, and canoes right off the beach! They even have a launch bay you can use!
Outside the water they also have an impressive souvenir shop, a convenient mini mart, and a miniature golf course! Their mini golf is not only affordable, but also a lot of fun. The course takes longer than you might expect, and its in a beautiful shady outdoor spot with lots of trees, so you don’t have to stay cooped up inside.
They also offer a pool, in case swimming in the lake isn’t too you or your kiddos liking. Also outside, they have a large deep pool with a shallow end for kids. There is a slide, a hot tub, and even a sweat lodge! Not to mention the grounds are covered with cool water misters for when you can’t beat the heat.
Little Bear ATV Trailhead
For some people, summer means more than just olaying in the water. It also means playing in the dirt! This ATV trail is not only beautiful, but also exhilarating. With a few rental places in town, or if you brought your own, you and your family can bring your ATVs up the mountains and out of town for some down and dirty fun.

At first glance, traveling long distances in a car might seem like an exciting adventure. However, after the first 100 miles you are quickly reminded that road trips can get boring fast. Well, be bored no longer — here is the ultimate guide to road trip games. We’ve got road trip games for the kids, road trip games for adults and road trip games for the whole family! These games will make even the longest road trips fun and exciting.
Why Play Road Trip Games?
You might be thinking why bother with road trip games — surely everyone has a smartphone or tablet to keep them occupied during the journey? Well, road trip games have certain advantages over staring at electronic devices during a journey, such as:
They help you form a closer bond with friends and family When you play road trip games, you will be laughing with the other passengers, learning new things about each other and creating great new memories. For some families, a road trip might be the best possible time to have deep conversations with your kids and learn what their favorite things are.
The trip goes much faster! Most road trip games require participants to solve puzzles and engage with the other people in the car. As everyone knows —Time flies when you are having fun!
Laughing reduces stress Most road trip games are a ton of fun and guaranteed to generate lots of laughs. Laughter is one of the best ways to reduce stress levels and turn a long journey into a fun-filled trip with friends or family.
Your kids will be learning new things If your children are playing a road trip game that involves puzzles, they will have to use their problem-solving skills and harness their creativity. Your children will also be improving their communication skills during the journey and learning more about the world.
Passengers will be paying attention to their surroundings
Many road trip games ask participants to look for certain things around them, like specific types of cars or objects. Everyone will be carefully scanning the locations they are passing through — which really helps them notice interesting and unusual things. Participants will learn a lot more about the world instead of being glued to the Twitter feed of some celebrity.
Facebook is boring (and stressful) Aren’t you sick of reading people’s inane posts about what they had for dinner or where they are staying? Recent studies suggest that Facebook use can even increase stress levels! Taking a Facebook holiday will help you de-stress and enjoy your trip.
Road Trip Games for Kids
If the adults in the car are busy driving, sleeping, or listening to music, the kids can still play some road trip games together. These road trip games are simple to learn and a ton of fun! They will keep the kids occupied throughout the journey, making it feel like the car trip is shorter and more enjoyable.
I Spy
This is perhaps the most well-known road trip game of all time! I Spy is the perfect game for kids to play in the car. They will be looking out the window, engaged in conversation with each other, and having a great time.
To play I Spy, one person looks at their surroundings and chooses an object that the other players have to guess the name of. They tell the other participants what letter the name of the object starts with or the color of the object. The player who correctly guesses the name of the object goes next. Tell the kids to choose something which they can see for more than 10 seconds and not just items that are flying past the car at 60 miles per hour.
Easy to Play: Ask each other mysterious questions and try to figure out which answers everyone has picked!
Multi-Award Winning: Play for hours as you experience 220 new conversations. Each deck contains 110 cards
Would you rather is a simple game where participants are asked to choose between two undesirable things. For example, you could ask someone if they would rather be completely bald or completely covered in hair. They should also be asked to rationalize their decision — is being hairy better because you can be incognito? Or is being bald better because people will think you are Professor X from the X-Men? There are also some great Would You Rather card decks which are designed for young children. Players simply draw a card from the deck and answer the Would You Rather question. This pack has some hilarious questions that will have the adults in the car laughing hysterically.
The Travel Scavenger Hunt for Kids from University Games is great fun on a car trip
Kids love whiling away the miles searching for the objects found on the cards
Can you find a red car, a license plate with the letter ”Z,” or a stop sign?
The Travel Scavenger Hunt Card Game is guaranteed to keep the kids busy during a long road trip! It is incredible fun and simple to play. Each player takes five cards from the deck and tries to locate the objects that are written on each card. There are also “feel it” “smell it” and “hear it” cards that encourage kids to use all of their senses while enjoying their car trip. The kids will be so busy during the journey that they won’t complain or ask “how long till we get there”!
Rock, Paper, Scissors
A road trip is the perfect time to find out which of your children is the current rock paper scissors champion. To play this game, each child makes a fist and shouts out “Rock Paper, Scissors” — swinging their first down each time they say a word. They then make the shape of a rock (closed fist), paper (an open hand) or scissors (making a V with their index and middle fingers). Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper, and paper beats rock! They get one point for each win, and the first to reach a designated total (the first to 21 works well) wins the game.

Traditionally when they see one, they would give another family member a punch in the arm. However, if you don’t want the kids whacking each other during the journey, have them tally the number of bugs they see. The person who spots the most bugs could get a candy bar at the next stop!
Lonely Planet has been helping people explore the world for decades with their handy travel guides. They also make some great books for kids who are traveling to new places. Some of the challenges in the game include spotting particular items — like weathervanes or satellite dishes. The family will become eagle-eyed adventurers who are exploring the world. Your road trip will become an exciting exploration of the world instead of a mundane journey.
Don’t Say It!
This is another great game for the entire family, because it has simple rules. The passengers in the car think of five words that they should not say during the journey. I they say any of those words, they will be penalized in some way. You can be creative about the penalty — it could be something silly like being forced to sing an embarrassing song or donate 50 cents to the road trip’s candy fund. Choose words that are often said during a road trip or words that certain passengers frequently say.

Playing this game will let them entertain themselves and give the parents up front a few moments to themselves. Guess Who has become increasingly popular in recent years as lot of “challenges” have come out like, “Guess Who? using only vibes” or “Guess Who? by their music taste.” Your kids can come up with their own challenges and have fun round after round!
Fictional Families
This is a hilarious road trip game that the entire family will enjoy. It really harnesses the creativity of your passengers and is guaranteed to draw a few laughs along the way. Your family then takes a good look at the occupants in the other vehicle and creates an imaginary back story about them. The more exciting and creative the back story is, the better! Your family will create some hilarious stories that can become a running joke during the journey.
The Geography Road Game
The best part of being on the road with the family is that they get to learn a lot about the geography of the United States — if they are not glued to their smartphone! Help the kids learn more about the location of counties, cities and states with this simple geography game. The game starts when one player names a location, for example Nebraska. The next person must name a location in the United States that starts with the last letter of that word — the letter “A.” You can score this game if you like — making states worth 1 point, towns or cities worth 2 points and national parks, waterways and mountains worth 3 points.

Fortunately/Unfortunately
This is a funny game that will generate some laughs and stimulate your children’s creativity. The first person in the car thinks of something fortunate that is happening soon. The next person has to think of something unfortunate that is tied to the first event. Each occupant of the car continues saying fortunate/unfortunate things until the story comes to a conclusion. The crazier the events are in the story, the more enjoyable it will be! For example:
“Fortunately, it’s a beautiful sunny day today!”
“Unfortunately, it is bombarding us with deadly gamma rays”
“Fortunately, we can absorb those rays and become the next hulk”
“Unfortunately we’d probably destroy all of the other cars on the road”
“Fortunately, we’d get to date Jennifer Connelly or Scarlett Johansson because they have been girlfriends of the Hulk in movies!”
The Furthest License Plate Game
This games tests both the eyesight and geographical knowledge of participants! The goal of the game is to look at the license plates around you and choose one from a state that is as far away as possible. You can either play the game over the duration of the entire trip or have “one-offs” where you have 5 seconds to spot a far away license plate then yell it out. It is great fun to be traveling in Florida and spot a car with an Alaskan license plate next to you!
Complainers
You might think the last thing you want to hear during the journey is a complaining child! Surprisingly, voicing outrageous and silly complaints can actually be a fun road trip game. Each participant gets two minutes to complain about any inane or silly thing they can think of. For example, some ridiculous complaints you make could include:
“This beautiful sunny day is giving me skin cancer why can’t it be wet and miserable?”
“My feet are too cold and my head is too hot!”
“This shirt is itching so much it feels like I am covered by cactus leaves!”
“I hate peanuts! I just hate them!”
“Pugs aren’t cute they are annoying and have fat, wrinkly faces!”
Name That Celebrity
This game can be quite funny and makes time fly while on the road! Passengers have to look for other people who look like well known celebrities. When they see one they have to yell out the location of the car and the name of the celebrity. The person “must have” a resemblance to the celebrity. The other occupants of the car can either agree or disagree. They can also name an alternate celebrity who has a closer resemblance to that person.
Adult Road Trip Games
If there are no young kids in the car, you might be looking for more advanced road trip games that have more complex puzzles or require more knowledge. These games are useful for road trips with adult friends or road trips for families with teenage children.
Never Have I Ever…
Normally played as a drinking game, Never Have I Ever works well as a road trip game and makes monotonous journeys fun! To play the game, one person makes a statement start with “Never have I ever…” then everyone who has performed that action in their life has to have a drink. Try to think of questions that are interesting, unusual or funny.
For example, “Never have I ever cheated on a test” or “Never have I ever eaten someone else’s lunch” can provide some interesting responses. The people who answered yes to the proposition then have the option of providing the back story to the event. It is a great way for people to learn more about one another! You can also play the Loaded Questions Card Game, which has 200 creative and interesting question cards plus a scoring system. Cards Against Humanity is a party game for horrible people.
This is the main game. Buy this first.
Contains 500 white cards and 100 black cards for maximum replayability.
Described as a “party game for horrible people” Cards Against Humanity poses some tricky and politically incorrect questions to each player. The deck contains black cards and white cards. At the start of the round, a chosen player (The Judge) draws a black card from the stack. This card contains a question that must be answered with one of the white cards. Each player must use one of their ten white cards to answer that question.
Players hand their white card answers to The Judge. The Judge then chooses the answer that they like the most from the responses. The player with the chosen answer gets a point. The tricky part is that the responses don’t go very well with the questions! They are often politically incorrect and distasteful. Players feel like horrible human beings, but they are guaranteed to have a few laughs.
You can play this game in the car, with the driver being the Judge — they just have other people read them the questions and answers on the cards on their behalf.
Human Jukeboxes
If everyone in your car is a music lover, you can give Human Jukeboxes a try. To play this game, one passengers starts singing a line from their favorite song. The next person must think of a different song lyric that starts with the last word of the first song. For example:
“’Cause you make me feel like I’ve been locked out of heaven” (Bruno Mars)
“…Heaven only knows, Heaven only knows” (John Legend)
The Movie Game
This is the perfect road trip game for passengers who are film lovers. It’s also very easy to learn! The game is started by someone saying the name of a random actor. The next person must say the name of a movie that the actor starred in. The next person must say the name of another actor in the same movie. The game goes on until someone cannot think of the name of a matching actor or movie. The person who cannot answer or gets the answer wrong is out of the game until the next round.
Radio Roulette
If you are enjoying a road trip around America with your family and friends, you should make sure they experience as much culture as possible! One way you can do so is by playing radio roulette. Randomly change the radio station that you are listening to every 10 minutes. You will hear everything from classical jazz to evangelical Christians and crazy people talkback radio! There are some pretty bizarre radio stations out there and forcing yourself to listen to them makes the road trip much more interesting.
Explain a Film Plot Badly
This is another one for the film fanatics! A person in the car explains a film plot very badly and the other passengers have to guess what the movie is. Here are a couple of examples:
“Unhappy billionaire terrorizes mentally ill man” — Batman
“Man destroys family heirloom” — Lord of The Rings.
“I’m not supposed to talk about it” — Fight Club
“A boy becomes friends with a monk, goes into space, kisses his sister and kills his dad” — Star Wars

Mad Libs is one of the world’s most popular word games. Participants are presented with a story or song that has a few words missing. They must fill in the blanks to create an original piece of work. This is a book containing dozens of mad libs for the family to enjoy while on a road trip. The songs and stories that are created from filling them in are often hilarious!
Round Robin Story Game
This game involves participants crafting an interesting story one word at a time! Most stories are fairly short — usually four or five sentences long. Some of the stories that are created are quite memorable and funny. It’s usually good idea to record the stories on your phone, so you can play them back later for a few laughs.
The game starts with a player saying the first word in the story. The game then goes around the car in a circle, with each player contributing an additional word. Players can also contribute punctuation to complete a sentence.
For example:
Person 1: It
Person 2: was
Person 3: a
Person 4: dark
Person 1: night
Person 2: in
Person 3: Tennessee
Person 4: and
Person 1: the

The Related Words Game
To play this game, participants are given a starting word. They must think of a word that relates to this starting word. They then continue thinking of words that relate to the previous word in the list — with the goal of coming back to the first word. The winner of the game is the player who uses the shortest list of words.
For example, if the word is orange:
Person 1 says: Orange, fruit, cup, drink, juice, orange.
Person 2 says: Orange, fruit, food, Cheetos, orange. (Winner!)
I’m Going on a Picnic!
This game is a fantastic way to improve your memory and language skills. If you have some kids in the car, it can really help them improve their vocabulary! The game starts with a player saying: “I’m going on a picnic and I am bringing…” then the name of an object or animal that starts with the letter A. The next person then says: “I’m going on a picnic and I am bringing…” then mentions the first item and another item starting with the letter B. The game continues through the alphabet.
If a player cannot remember the names of all of the items in the list, they are out. If you are playing with younger players, you can offer them a few hints if they can’t remember a specific item.
Spot the Alphabet
This is another great game for the whole family. Each player is looking for road signs, shop names or billboards that start with each letter of the alphabet. They start at “A” and work their way through to “Z”. For example, if someone spots a sign for “Appalachians Mountains” they mention it — completing the letter “A” and moving on to “B”. The object must be spotted on your side of the car and each object can only be used once.
The Rhyming Game
This is a simple road trip word game that will test your vocabulary and ability to rhyme. A starting player says a word that is easily rhymed, then players take turns thinking of other words that rhyme with it. Each player has 3 seconds to think of a word and words cannot be repeated.
