Make a difference – Many young and brilliant children have made a difference in the world. Discuss with your child, if they could change something or speak out about something, “What would it be”. How would they go about it? It could have something to do with the environment, public safety or anything they truly feel passionate about. Then make a “difference”. They could do a simple letter to an organization and/or governmental office. Possibly make flyers, posters or publicly speak about this project. Encourage your child to make a difference and to be aware of their surroundings.

  • Clean the car – Many families drive around with pretty darn messy cars.
It’s due to busy schedules and the fact that kids are not taught to clean up after themselves. Parents should be good examples though. Every month or so, detail and clean your car. Vacuum first (with no water around until complete), clean inside windows, vinyl, seats, and remove trash. Then once all power cords are disconnected and removed wash and wax the car. It teaches children pride and responsibility. Try to make the event fun for them with positive reinforcement and celebrate with a treat afterwards.
  • Give a basket – Do you know someone that would need their spirits lifted for the day. Maybe you know of a neighbor, elderly person, family member or someone in need? Make up a basket with simple gifts like; homemade treats, little gifts from a dollar store and maybe a special recipe to share. Decorate the basket and include special notes, letters, poems and encouraging words. The kids can include some of their great recent artwork.
  • Support our troops
There are many things you can do to support our troops. Children can make cards, pictures, and letters or write poems. You can drop them off or contact you local military base. You should consider only giving out you child’s first name and what town you are from. Troops that are deployed love to here from the people back home that are supporting them. Who knows, you may just lift someones spirits when they need it most.

  • Holiday Fruit Centerpiece

Fill a glass bowl or container with decorated fruit. You’ll need oranges, lemons, limes, and cranberries. Take a zestier to the citrus fruit and carve various designs. You can do spirals, lines, diamonds or whatever creative ideas that comes to mind. Have the children insert whole cloves along those carvings in a spaced out fashion. Place ribbon through out the decorated fruit that has been placed in the bowl. Sprinkle in fresh cranberries to add more color. Not only will it look festive, it will smell wonderful.

  1. Neighborhood Newspaper – Have the children in a safe neighborhood go together and interview neighbors.
Subjects and questions for the newspaper could be; News of the week, prayer requests, jokes, poems, hot topics, I remember when, featured neighbors, when I was growing up I wanted to be, the person that made a difference in my life, and so on. Some of the children will enjoy the interviewing process; others will enjoy designing, creating, typing, selling or delivering the paper. Sell the paper to help cover the some or all of the costs. Always make sure the children are aware to keep the information encouraging, positive and non-hurtful.
  2. Go Green – Have the kids think about the things that they could do to help the environment. What changes can they do in their lives to help make a clean earth? Have them research how our environment is changing. Have them make a plan of what they will do and then help them implement it.
